Homebuyer advice:

Protect your real estate investment!

Oil heat is safe, efficient and economical.  However, the average lifespan of a buried steel tank can vary widely depending on the soil conditions and surrounding environment.  Therefore, homebuyers intending to remain oil heat customers should protect their investment by evaluating the tank and soil prior to the real estate closing.

Tank Inspections - 3 Options

Our company offers homebuyers three separate inspection services.  All our inspection services provide cost-effective solutions to identify problems with the home's underground tank system.

1. Tank Testing (standard inspection)-

Our tank test systems use a sophisticated computer analysis program to evaluate the tank and piping.   The tank test will identify problems with the integrity of the tank or piping.  Based on the computerized test results, we will issue a written "pass" or "fail" report.  Often, tank test failures can be repaired and in these cases, we will do our best to identify the problem area.  Need more information about tank testing? Visit our Tank Test page!

Test Results: Available on-site.

Reports: Available 24 hours after the inspection.

Cost: Tank testing is the most economical inspection.

2.  Tank Testing & Tank Corrosion Analysis  (enhanced inspection)-

This enhanced inspection combines our tank testing services with corrosion analysis of the underground tank.  The tank corrosion evaluation would add an extra layer of security by predicting whether the tank is at high risk for catastrophic failure in the near future.  The corrosion evaluation includes a separate written report describing the corrosive state of the tank in addition to the standard tank test report.  Visit our Tank Corrosion page to learn more about our tank corrosion services.

Test Results: Available on-site.

Reports: Both tank testing & corrosion reports are available within 24 hours.

Cost: Tank corrosion analysis is provided for a nominal additional fee.

3.  Tank Testing & Soil Corrosion Evaluation  (comprehensive inspection)-

Our comprehensive inspection includes tank testing, tank corrosion analysis and the S.T.E.P.S. soil corrosion evaluation.   The S.T.E.P.S. test involves extracting samples from the soil surrounding the underground tank.  The samples are transported to the S.T.E.P.S. laboratory to determine whether the soil contains petroleum contamination.  The S.T.E.P.S. laboratory will also identify elements in the soil that may accelerate the corrosion of steel such as presence of sulfide reducing bacteria and acidity or alkalinity of the soil.  This comprehensive inspection includes our tank test report, the S.T.E.P.S. laboratory report, and our analysis interpreting S.T.E.P.S. findings.  Visit our S.T.E.P.S. page for more information about the process.

Test Results: Tank testing & corrosion (avail. on-site).  S.T.E.P.S. (1-3 days).

Reports: Tank test report- 24 hours.  S.T.E.P.S. report (1-3 days).

Cost: Laboratory analysis accounts for the additional cost of this inspection.
